With everything that has been going on for me over the last year, I’ve really had to remind myself to stay in the present. Staying mindful isn’t always easy. Between starting my weight loss journey to becoming pregnant. Or dealing with mental health issues, eating disorders and medication. All of these can pull us out of the now and into the past or the future. While worrying about the future or stressing about the past aren’t completely avoidable, I think it’s important to take some time to focus on what’s happening now. Because now is pretty good.
So take some time to smell the roses. Spend some time doing mindful breathing. Go for a walk. Make a nice cup of tea and just relax. Or spend some time pampering yourself with some skincare, by doing your hair or nails, or whatever else makes you smile. I’m getting a little bit bossy, sorry.
One of my favourite things to do when I need to remind myself to come back to the present is deep breathing exercises or meditation. I don’t do anything particularly fancy, I just tune out some of the static and breathe deeply. So often, my day seems to revolve around other people, so sometimes, staying mindful is as simple as taking a few minutes for myself.
